Chose a hostel with a free breakfast over a private room, saved $120 in 4 days

I had to pick between a cramped hostel in Lisbon with free pancakes every morning or a private room a 20 minute walk from the action. The free breakfast let me stuff my bag with fruit for lunch, no joke I saved like $30 a day on food. Has anyone else gambled on the amenities vs location thing and regretted it?

Bet my last hostel had a "free" breakfast that was just stale bread and instant coffee, so you got lucky. Packing fruit for lunch is the real pro move though, saved me from spending $15 on a sad sandwich. Honestly if the pancakes were legit I'd take the hostel too, a 20 minute walk sucks when you're stuffed.

Honestly I used to think paying more for a closer hotel was always worth it but you're changing my mind with those legit pancakes lol. A good free breakfast can make up for a lot of extra walking.

Yo, that's genius! I once stayed at a hostel in Prague that had a free breakfast spread with these massive croissants and boiled eggs. I'd grab like four of those bad boys and a couple apples, and that was me set for the whole day. Walked everywhere, saved a ton, and honestly the extra walking helped burn off all that pastry. So yeah, free breakfast hostels are where it's at, especially when they hook it up proper like yours did!
