The $20 bus ride that saved my trip to Montreal
I was booking a trip to Montreal and had to pick between a $120 train ticket or a $20 bus ride. The train was faster, but the bus was way cheaper. I went with the bus, which took about two hours longer. It wasn't bad at all, I just read a book and watched the scenery. I used the $100 I saved to get a really nice dinner in the city. Has anyone else found a bus option that was surprisingly decent for a short trip?

You mentioned using the $100 saved for a nice dinner. Was the meal good enough that you'd pick the bus over the train again for that same trade-off?

Honestly, the steak was totally worth the extra travel time.

Totally get the bus choice, and @jake_thompson makes a good point about the trade-off. Honestly, the real win is when the bus has free wifi and decent legroom, it stops feeling like a compromise. I took a bus from Boston to Portland once and it was so smooth, I just zoned out to music and got there feeling relaxed, not stressed. That's the sweet spot, when the longer ride actually becomes part of the fun because you're not just staring at the seat in front of you. Saving money for dinner is just the bonus on top.
