Tried booking a flight to Lisbon through a third-party site versus direct with the airline

I saved about $80 on the ticket with the third-party site, but when my schedule changed, they charged a $150 change fee. The airline's own direct booking only had a $75 fee. The extra hassle wasn't worth the small upfront savings. Has anyone found a good way to check these hidden fees before you buy?

That $150 fee is brutal. I always check the airline's own change and cancellation policy page first, then compare it line by line with the third-party site's terms. The difference is usually in the fine print about "service fees" on top of the airline's fee.

I always booked third-party until that $150 fee hit me too.

But that $80 upfront savings... it's real money for some people.
