Vent: My bartending schedule keeps clashing with budget flight sales

I really want to travel more but I have to watch every penny. My shifts at the bar change all the time, so planning trips in advance is a nightmare. I spotted an amazing deal on a flight last week, but it was for a Tuesday when I suddenly got put on the evening shift. Missing out on savings like that hurts! What are some tricks for booking flexible trips when your work hours are all over the place? Are there specific websites or alerts for last-minute travel that fit weird schedules? Share your best tips with me!

This is such a common problem now (like, it's everywhere). It feels like the whole idea of planning ahead is broken for anyone without a 9-to-5 job. Flight sales always seem to reward fixed schedules, but more and more jobs don't have that stability. One thing that might help is setting up price alerts for your known off-days, even if they shift around. Some travel sites let you search for whole months, which can show cheaper days you might not have thought of. Honestly, it's a sign of how little our systems care about flexible workers, and that's a bigger issue to fix.

Ugh, @the_henry is spot on about flight sales living in a 9-to-5 fantasy. Like, my work days shift all the time, but sure, let me plan a trip six months out. It's almost like they want us to quit our jobs just to save on airfare.

That "9-to-5 fantasy" line really shows how lots of things are still built for old-school work hours. I see it with stuff like bank hours or appointment times that don't fit shift work. It's a constant reminder that flexible schedules aren't really accounted for in daily life.
