Why I stopped tracking mood after a therapist told me to ditch it
I used to color code my mood every single day for almost a year. Then my therapist in Columbus asked why I was doing it. I said it helped me notice patterns. She said, "You're just labeling feelings and moving on, not actually sitting with them." It stung because she was right. I would spend 10 seconds picking a color and feel like I handled my emotions. Now I write one sentence about what actually caused the shift. Took me about 6 weeks to get used to it. Anyone else find mood tracking makes them avoid the real work?
Guilty as charged over here, I tracked my moods for two years and thought I was doing big healing work while really I was just picking stickers like a kid earning a gold star. In my experience the color thing let me slap a label on a bad day and call it handled, which is way easier than asking what set it off. Your one sentence idea sounds rough at first but probably gets you somewhere real, your mileage may vary though.
