My new grinder died 20 minutes into its first big job
Picked up a new 110v grinder last Tuesday for a whole hog breakdown and the motor started smoking about 20 minutes into breaking down the shoulder. I swapped to my old backup (a beat up model from 2009 that honestly owes me nothing) and it chewed through the rest of the hog just fine. Turns out the new one had a bad bearing from the factory, which I only found out after taking the housing off and spinning the armature by hand. I sent the receipt to the supplier and they're shipping a replacement, but I'm honestly wondering if I should just stick with the old unit and ask for a refund instead. Anyone else had a brand new piece of gear fail that fast, or am I just cursed with bad luck lately?
Man, that bearing thing is exactly why I stopped trusting new gear out of the box. A 2009 model that still runs is worth more than a fresh one with a warranty, at least the old one already proved itself. I'd take the refund and put that cash toward blades or something you'll actually get use out of.
