That expensive fat separator I bought was a complete waste

Spent $45 on a fancy fat separator from a kitchen supply site last month. Thought it would make my broth and gravy work way faster. But honestly, it's just a fancy measuring cup with a spout at the bottom. My old method of just skimming with a ladle works just as good and takes maybe 2 extra minutes. For a butcher who deals with fat every day, I should have known better. Has anyone else bought a gadget that just didn't live up to the hype?

Bought a fancy garlic press for my buddy last year. He still uses a smashed knife blade because the press just mashes garlic into the holes and you spend more time cleaning it than you would just chopping. Ended up in the back of his drawer after two uses.

Huh, sounds about right. Those presses are a gimmick. You spend five minutes scraping garlic paste out of every tiny hole while the clove just sits there laughing at you. Might as well just smash it with a rock and call it a day.
