The grinder that walked off my bench mid-shift

Came back from break last Tuesday and my #22 grinder was just gone from the dock, no note or nothing. Turns out the new kid used it to grind bones for sausage and burned the motor out, left it in the walk-in. I ended up tearing it apart myself to get the burnt smell out, but the bearing housing is toast now. Anyone else ever had a temp do something like this and how do you handle the repair bill?

That #22 must've been a solid workhorse too, those old ones take a beating and keep going. I feel for you, man, cause I've had a part timer grab my good knife and use it to pry open a crate of frozen chicken, chipped the tip right off. When the owner asked about it, he just shrugged and said it was already like that. You're probably stuck eating the cost on the bearing housing, and that's the worst part cause the kid won't learn nothing from it. Maybe next time, lock your good tools in the cabinet before break, or at least put a tag on it with your name so there's no excuse. The smell thing is rough too, that burnt bone grease sticks around for weeks no matter how much you clean it.
