A homeowner in Seattle told me my cable runs looked sloppy and it made me switch to velcro ties.

I used to just zip tie everything tight, but after that comment I started using velcro for all my indoor drops and it's way cleaner, plus easier to adjust later if needed.

Matching colors is a good call. I once had a client ask me to redo a whole rack because the blue velcro clashed with her gray wall. Now I keep black, white, and gray on hand. It sounds silly, but for some people the visual part is just as important as the function. You can do perfect work, but if it looks messy to them, they won't be happy.

That homeowner had a point, it's the little details that make a job look pro. Velcro just looks more finished than a bunch of plastic zip ties, especially in someone's living space. It's one of those small upgrades that doesn't cost much more but shows you care about the final look. I've even started keeping a few colors of velcro on the truck to match cables or wall colors when it matters.

My first job out of trade school, I zip-tied a whole house network so tight it looked like a robot spiderweb. The customer's face said it all. I felt like a real artist, but the kind that paints with mud.
