Remember when we used toner couplers instead of line testers?
Back in '08 I had to manually adjust toner couplers on every job in Phoenix. Now I just clip on a Fluke toner and it finds the line in 10 seconds. Saved me about 20 minutes per house. Any of you old timers still use the couplers out of habit?

Yeah exactly, I keep an old coupler around just for those weird old houses where the Fluke draws a blank.

Got a Fluke myself a few years back and never looked back. The old couplers were a pain when you had to work around live circuits in a building that wasn't properly grounded. If you weren't careful you could backfeed and mess up the signal or worse. The new testers handle that automatically so you don't have to think about it. I still keep one coupler in my truck for the rare old house with weird wiring it can't figure out.
