Finally got the hang of rolling my own flex cables instead of buying new ones
Honestly, for the first two years of fixing cameras I would just order a replacement ribbon cable the second I saw a torn one, which meant waiting a week and paying $18 to $40 each time. Last Saturday I sat down with a $12 soldering iron tip and some 0.3mm enamel wire and actually fixed a Nikon F3 flex myself in about 40 minutes. Ngl the first three tries were ugly and I lifted a pad once, but I used a little flux and kept the heat low and it held up fine on a test roll. It is not pretty but the shutter fires every time now, and I have done four more since. Has anyone else here had luck repairing flex cables on older bodies, or do you still just swap them out?
