Guy at the counter said he sends film cameras out now instead of fixing them himself
I was picking up a CLA'd Pentax at the shop on Grand Ave and the old timer behind the counter said he quit doing shutter work on folders 3 years ago because he can't get the tiny springs anymore. Made me think about how much of this trade is slowly turning into parts hunting instead of actual repair. Anybody else stockpiling donor bodies just to keep basic jobs going, or is it just me?
So are we all just running tiny camera bone yards out of our closets now? I've got three dead Yashicas sitting in a shoebox purely for parts, which feels less like a hobby and more like I'm hoarding organs for future transplants. The worst part is when you finally find the spring you need, it's on some perfectly good camera that you now have to gut, so you're basically sacrificing one to save another. It's a weird little circle of life and I'm not sure I signed up for it.
