Honestly, a $200 mistake is one heck of a teacher. My old method was just blowing on them and hoping for the best, so you were already way ahead of me. Tbh, that price tag probably bought you a lifetime of being super careful with tiny springs now. I'd have just glued the whole thing shut and called it art.
