Rant: I laughed at the guy who said to tap the prism housing with a screwdriver handle, then it fixed a stuck mirror on a $30 Craigslist X-700

Figured he was pulling my leg when he said he never opens the bottom plate for a stuck mirror, just taps the prism housing twice. Did it on a beat up X-700 last Thursday and the mirror dropped back down in about 10 seconds. Anyone else got a lazy trick that sounds like nonsense but works?
