That old timer's advice about lens fungus was oddly specific, and he was right
Guy named Pete from a shop in Dayton told me to store my repair bench lenses in a dry cabinet with silica gel, pointing at a 1940s Kodak he swore got ruined by a basement flood in 1998. I laughed it off until I pulled a 50mm f/1.4 out of my drawer last month and saw those spiderweb spores all over the rear element. Took me 3 hours and a UV lamp session to clean it out, and now I'm paranoid about every lens I touch. Anyone else trust random bench wisdom over the manufacturers' care sheets?
