That REI sales guy's whisper about nylon tents still bugs me

Overheard a clerk in the Denver store telling a couple that nylon tents degrade in UV faster than polyester, so they should spend 40% more for the 'sun-proof' option. I checked two of my old tents from 2019, one nylon and one poly, both stored the same way. The nylon one has real brittle spots near the seams, but I've also left it out for entire weekends at a time. Anyone else find that UV talk is just a way to push pricier gear?
