Hit 50 speakers this semester before I even graduated
I'm part of the campus events committee and we track speaker invites. I just realized we've hosted 50 different speakers on free speech topics since January. That number surprised me. It started with a debate on trigger warnings in lit classes and snowballed into this huge series. The milestone made me think about how much demand there actually is for open dialogue here. Has anyone else's school hit a weird quota like that?

I read somewhere that campuses are seeing a big uptick in these kinds of free speech events, almost like a counter reaction to how tense things have been lately. A buddy of mine at State told me their student government did something similar, they booked 30 speakers last fall just on cancel culture alone. 50 by graduation is wild though, that must have taken a ton of organizing. It makes me wonder if people are finally tired of just shouting at each other online and want to actually hash stuff out in person.
