The free speech wall at my old college got torn down and the number of approved zones was 3
I went back to my old campus in Ohio last month for a friend's graduation and walked past where the free speech wall used to be. It was just a plain brick wall with a tiny sign now. I asked a student worker about it and she said the school cut it down to 3 approved speech zones, all far apart from each other. That number bugged me. When I was there in 2019 we had like a dozen spots where you could just set up a table and talk. Now you have to book a zone 5 days ahead and the biggest one is smaller than a parking space. A buddy still on campus told me the school says it's about safety and crowd control. I get that, but 3 zones for 20,000 students feels like a math problem where the answer is just no. Has anyone else gone back to their school and counted how few places you can actually speak now?
