Building inspector shut me down for pointing out a foundation gap

Was doing a pour last week and saw a serious gap in the forms before the inspector signed off. I tried to mention it and he just held up his hand, said 'my site, my call,' and walked off. Guess some people don't want to hear the obvious, even when it's holding up their concrete.

After "my site, my call," I'd snap photos and report it to his supervisor.

But what if reporting someone actually causes more problems than it solves? I see where @torres.pat is coming from with the photo idea, but instantly going to a supervisor can seem like you're not a team player. The person in charge might have a good reason for their call that isn't obvious from the outside. Undermining authority on site can lead to confusion and slow down work. Isn't it worth trying to see their side before you take it to the boss?

It's like @torres.pat's photo idea shows-people with a little authority hate smart advice from below.
