Got called out at a family dinner for saying I don't believe in ghosts

Two weeks ago at my aunt's house in Louisville, I casually said I think ghost stories are just people misremembering stuff. My cousin went quiet, and then my uncle told me to keep that to myself because 'it ruins the fun.' I get that people like the mystery, but I wasn't trying to start a fight. I was just answering honestly when someone asked why I never get scared at haunted houses. Has anyone else had relatives get mad at you for not sharing their supernatural beliefs?

Just smile and change the subject next time, saves everyone the awkward tension.

Man, that sounds rough. I had a similar thing happen at a Thanksgiving dinner in 2019 when I said I don't buy into astrology. My cousin's girlfriend got super defensive and said I was being close-minded. It's weird how people take it personally when you don't buy into the same stuff they do. I wasn't trying to ruin anyone's fun either, just being honest about what I think. The whole "keep it to yourself" thing feels kinda unfair when they're the ones asking you a direct question. Hope your family gets over it soon, it's not like you were trying to be rude.
