My boss banned me from saying 'budget' after I found a $0 fix for our file storage problem

I told my team to just use Google Drive shared folders instead of paying $50 a month for SharePoint upgrades. My boss pulled me aside and said 'stop making us look cheap,' but honestly, does anyone else deal with managers who hate when you save them money?

The "stop making us look cheap" thing is a bit of a red flag actually. Good managers usually appreciate when you find a way to do something for free, not get mad about it. Maybe your boss is worried about how it looks to higher-ups or clients, but a $0 fix that works is still a win. Just a little correction there - it's not about hating saving money, it's about how you present it. Frame it as "streamlining" or "optimizing" next time instead of saying it was free.

Agree with @morgan316 on the framing part, but saving money is always good. Bad managers hate it.
