Serious question, a stat from the BLS site said the average worker now stays at a job about 4 years
I was poking around the Bureau of Labor Statistics site last week and saw that the median time people stay at one job is only around 4 years now. That surprised me because my dad worked at the same plant in Ohio for 31 years and I always thought that was normal. So how are you all handling this, do you plan for short stints on purpose or just see where things go?
I heard a podcast a while back that said the 4 year number is kind of misleading because it counts young people who jump around a lot, while older workers still stick around way longer. So maybe it's less that everyone switches jobs and more that the average is pulled down by folks in their 20s. I've just kinda stopped expecting any place to be forever and try to pick up skills I can take with me.
