Why does nobody tell you to write down what your boss actually asks for?
I was sitting in a diner in Tulsa last Tuesday and overheard a guy at the next booth tell his buddy that he lost a promotion because he kept doing what he thought the job was instead of what his manager wrote in the email. He said he started keeping a running list in a cheap notebook and checking it before every project. I tried it for two weeks at my own job and caught three things I had been doing totally wrong. Has anyone else had a manager notice a small change like this?
Did the manager actually say anything to him about the change, or did he just notice on his own? Curious if a small habit like that gets you credit or if you still gotta point it out yourself.
