Changed my mind on power stretchers after a job in Decatur
Old timer named Ray told me at a supply house that I was wasting my time with knee kickers on anything over 12 feet. I laughed it off for a year until I did a big living room in Decatur, 18 by 22, and the ripples showed up bad in the corners. His advice about adding an extra 4 inches of stretch on the long wall saved that install. Has anyone else found that knee kickers only work up to a certain room size, or is it more about the carpet type?

Ain't that the truth? I fought the kicker for years on bigger rooms too, till I had a hallway in Marietta that looked like a washboard. Ray sounds like a real one, that extra 4 inches is the ticket. Honestly I think it's a mix, room size matters a ton but the carpet backing plays a huge part too. Cheap stuff just doesn't hold a stretch the same way, no matter what tool you got. Good on you for listening to the old guy, saved yourself a headache down the road.
