Power stretcher kicked back on a stair landing, tore my knee up

Last Tuesday I was stretching a 12 foot run into a hallway and the plate slipped off the tack strip on the landing, the kickback threw me sideways into the stair stringer. My knee hit the nosing and I couldn't put weight on it for a good 20 minutes, ended up taping the job up with a knee brace from my truck just to finish. Anyone else had a stretcher catch on a transition lip and hurt themselves, or am I the only one dumb enough to not pin the plate down?
