Remember when we used to fight with those giant rolls of padding in stairwells?
Had a job last month in a 1920s house with a narrow, winding staircase. Couldn't get the 15-foot roll to turn the corner without tearing it. Out of frustration, I cut the roll into 3-foot sections right there on the landing. Pre-cut each piece to the exact tread and riser size before carrying it up. It added maybe 20 minutes to the prep, but saved an hour of wrestling and cussing. Anyone else have a weird stair trick that saved their sanity?

Cutting it on the landing is brilliant. Those old staircases are impossible.

Actually have to disagree on them being impossible. Yeah they're a pain, but there's a real trick to it once you get the rhythm down. You just have to go slow and keep the mower tilted at the right angle. Feels pretty satisfying when you get a clean line on those old steps.

I actually find those old staircases kind of charming.
