German dub of a kids cartoon got cut so hard it changed the plot

I was looking up an old anime from the 90s for a nostalgia rewatch. Found out the German version had like 4 episodes removed and a whole character arc deleted because of a mild romance subplot. Took me about 2 weeks of digging through forums to figure out what was actually going on. Has anyone else found a localized version that rewrote a story so much it barely matches the original?

Four episodes removed and they just let the German kids think the main character went on a random side quest for two weeks straight. I had this happen with a Spanish dub of an anime where they cut a whole beach episode and suddenly the characters were referencing a vacation that never happened in that version. It's like the translators got a budget cut and decided the romance arc was the easiest thing to toss in the dumpster. Middle school me thought the plot was just confusing by design instead of butchered by a localizer.
