My librarian in Tulsa said the book was 'fine, nobody will even notice,' and that advice cost me a whole semester
Back in 2019 I was a freshman at a college in Tulsa and I picked George Orwell's Animal Farm for my big English paper. My librarian said the book was totally fine for my assignment and nobody at that school would blink, so I didn't think twice. Turned out the book was pulled from our district reading list two years earlier after a parent complaint about the politics, and my prof flagged it as inappropriate for class discussion. I had to rewrite the whole ten page paper in eight days on a different book. Has anyone else had a teacher or librarian steer them wrong on what was actually banned in their area?
