Vent: got a 3 day timeout on a photography forum for typing the word "grain"
Last Tuesday I was on a film photography forum helping a guy in Portland who posted muddy scans from his local lab. I wrote that his issue was probably push processing, since pushing 400 speed film to 1600 triples the grain, and the software over there zapped my comment in under a minute. Turns out their filter flags the word because it gets used for something else entirely, and appealing it got me nowhere. I ended up sending him the same answer through a message, and he wrote back that his lab confirmed it was exactly the push. What words have tripped filters for you on hobby forums where the meaning is totally innocent?
So a forum filter flagged a common photography term and you got a 3 day ban for it. That's not a free speech crisis, that's just lazy moderation. Auto filters are dumb, they don't know context, and every hobby forum has a few words that trip them for dumb reasons. Getting a timeout over it stinks, sure, but you already solved the actual problem by messaging the guy and he got his answer. The ban is annoying, not some big deal. Pick your battles, this one isn't worth the energy.
