Can we talk about what my grandson said when his class read a book with one word crossed out
My grandson is 15 and goes to a public high school here in Boise. Last week he brought home a copy of a novel his English class is reading, and I noticed a word was blacked out with a marker on page 47. I asked him why, and he said the teacher told the class a parent complained, so they were told to cross it out before handing the books out. He shrugged and said it was no big deal, which is the part that got me. The book is still on the shelf, but somebody decided kids can't handle one word in it. I wrote a short note to the teacher asking who made that call and never heard back. Has anyone here dealt with a school quietly editing a book instead of pulling it?
