How a vanished forum post opened my eyes to everyday censorship

So, I was going over the new city budget draft for fun (yeah, accountant life) and spotted some weird numbers. I put together a clear post on our neighborhood forum with the figures, hoping to get people talking. Woke up to find it GONE, and a mod message saying it 'could cause unnecessary worry.' That was the MOMENT I realized how much we're expected to just accept this. Now I catch myself biting my tongue in group chats or at work, and it's FRUSTRATING. This quiet censorship is EVERYWHERE, and it's shaping what we even think we can say. Telling these stories feels crucial to remembering what free speech truly means. It's a daily battle to not let fear silence us.

Honestly used to roll my eyes when people called stuff like this censorship, figured it was just mods cleaning up spam or bad takes. Seeing a clearly factual post get vanished for "causing worry" is a whole different thing, though. That shift from annoyance to genuine unease is real, especially when you notice yourself self-editing over coffee with friends. The quiet stuff definitely trains us to avoid certain topics before anyone even has to delete them.

Not to split hairs, @the_phoenix, but calling something 'clearly factual' often overlooks how facts are presented. That presentation (you know, like selective data) can indeed cause worry beyond the raw truth. So while the vanishing is troubling, the rationale might have more layers than it seems.

Man, the mods treating us like kids who can't handle bad news. Next they'll ban weather reports for "causing worry" about rain. We're all becoming our own personal thought police, editing out anything that might make someone slightly uneasy over their morning cereal. Pretty soon the only safe topic will be how great the new park benches look, lmao.
