Hairdryer on a cold flue saved me 20 minutes on a Ballard job

Had a 1920s bungalow in Ballard with a flue so cold the brush kept snagging on the first pass. Tried warming the liner for 5 minutes with my wife's old hairdryer and the soot broke loose in half the time. Anybody else preheat before a sweep or is that just me being lazy?
