PSA: A homeowner in Portland asked why I don't use those chimney cleaning logs, and it made me rethink my whole pitch
I was wrapping up a job off Hawthorne Blvd when the guy asked me straight out why he should pay me $250 when a $20 log from the hardware store does the same thing. I started my usual talk about creosote and safety, but his face told me he wasn't buying it. That night I looked up what those logs actually do, and they mostly just loosen a little soot while leaving the hard glaze alone. I now keep a photo of a glazed flue from a house in Sellwood on my phone and show it before I give the price. How do you all handle the "I'll just burn a log" pushback without sounding like a salesman?
