DAE still see guys putting armor all on their classic dash and wonder why it cracks 2 summers later
I used to be that guy slapping shiny goop on my 71 Nova dash because it looked great in the driveway for a week. Then I picked up a 65 Mustang with a dash that had been treated with that stuff for who knows how long and it was cracked in about 8 places within 15 months of me owning it. My neighbor Rick, who has been messing with old cars since the 80s, showed me his 67 Chevelle dash that he has only ever wiped with a dry microfiber and a tiny bit of mild soapy water. That dash still looks almost new after 20 plus years and he parks it outside half the time here in Fresno. The difference is those silicone shine products pull moisture out and leave a film that bakes in the heat, while plain water and shade do basically nothing bad. I switched over 3 years ago and my Nova dash has zero new cracks, not one. Anyone else ditch the shiny stuff completely or do some of you still swear by a specific protectant?
