A friend's rain garden made me notice my own street changed too

Went to a BBQ in Portland last weekend and my buddy showed off this rain garden he put in back in 2018. It's basically a shallow ditch full of native grasses now, and his basement hasn't flooded since. Walking home, I realized my whole block has these little swales popping up where there used to be just plain lawns. What started as a couple of neighbors testing it out turned into like 6 houses doing the same thing. Anyone else seeing this pattern in their city, or is Portland just extra into this stuff?

Which is funny cause I was just telling my cousin about how our dogwood tree started doing way better after the city dug that drainage trench on our side, like the whole root system just woke up or something.
