I used to think my old car was fine for the planet, but a chat with my mechanic changed my mind

Last month, my mechanic in Austin told me my 2008 SUV gets about 15 miles per gallon. He said a newer hybrid could double that. I did the math and saw I was spending over $100 a month just on gas for my commute. I traded it in for a used hybrid last week. Has anyone else made a switch like this and noticed a real difference in their fuel costs?

Man that's cool you made the switch. I actually did something similar a few years back but for a different reason. My old beater had this weird electrical gremlin where the radio would turn on by itself at 3 AM and scare the neighbors. Fixed it three times and it kept coming back. Finally just traded it in for something with a little less poltergeist activity. The mpg bump was just a bonus at that point. My cousin still gives me grief about it though, said I gave up too easy on a "character car.

My old truck was getting 14 mpg on a good day. Swapped it for a Civic and my gas bill got cut in half. The math really is that simple.

People forget how much insurance and maintenance costs drop too. My friend's F-150 was bleeding him dry before he switched.
