My landlord gave me a $50 rebate for swapping to a heat pump water heater

I manage a few older buildings in Portland, and the gas water heaters were eating up so much energy. Last month I tried applying for the local utility rebate program for heat pump units, figuring it was a long shot. The application took about an hour online with a copy of the invoice and the model number. The rebate came through in 3 weeks, $50 per unit, and I did two units so that covered a chunk of the install. The tenants say the water stays hot longer and the basement feels less stuffy. Has anyone else gotten rebates for efficiency upgrades that actually made the paperwork worth it?

Hold up, did you have to get a permit or inspection for those installs? I looked into heat pumps for a rental I have and the city here wanted extra paperwork that seemed like a nightmare. Also, did the rebate come as a check or a credit on your utility bill? I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the hassle for just one unit.
