Just realized I wasted $150 on coffee beans that were way too old

I bought a 2lb bag from a local roaster in Portland last month without checking the roast date. Turned out they were roasted 6 weeks before I even got them, and the flavor was flat and stale no matter how I brewed them. Now I always ask for the roast date before buying anything over $20. Has anyone else fallen for the fancy packaging trick?

Right there with you, I once bought a bag because the label had a cartoon fox on it and it smelled like stale cardboard. My wallet still hasn't forgiven me.

Totally get that @sarah198, my wallet's still mad at me for a purse shaped like a slice of pizza I bought at a flea market. It smelled like old gym socks and the zipper broke after two days, but that cartoon slice of pepperoni just called to me. Sometimes you just gotta trust the silly label and deal with the consequences later.
