My French press ground size experiment in Denver backfired

I switched from coarse to medium-fine grind for 4 minutes and got sludge in every cup, so has anyone else found that altitude makes finer grounds worse for immersion brewing?

Kept coarse but dropped brew time to 2.5 minutes, sludges gone at this altitude.
