Pro tip: using hot water first fixed my french press grit problem

Honestly I spent 6 months dealing with muddy coffee from my french press in Chicago. Tried different grinds, different beans, even bought a new carafe. Ngl I was about to give up on french press altogether. Then a barista at my local shop told me to pour hot water over the grounds for 30 seconds before adding the rest. Tbh it works like magic. The sludge at the bottom went down by like 80%. Has anyone else tried this trick or got another method that actually works?
