Appreciation post: the heckler at a campus talk in Lawrence asked a better question than the panel did
Went to a free speech debate at the University of Kansas last month where a speaker got interrupted for about 10 minutes straight by one guy in the back row. Security almost walked him out, but the moderator let him talk, and honestly his question about who gets to decide what counts as hate speech was sharper than anything the three panelists said all night. I don't agree with him on much, but he made the whole room think, and half the crowd stayed after to keep arguing in the hallway. Has anyone else seen a protest actually make a talk better instead of just shutting it down?
