It took me 5 weeks to get a speaker unblocked at my school, and I still don't know if I did it right
Back in September I was on the student events board at my college in Ohio. We booked a journalist to give a talk about misinformation, but two days before the event the school pulled the invite. They said her past social media posts made some donors uncomfortable. I thought it would be a quick fix. I emailed the dean, set up a meeting, and figured we would just explain the situation and get the block lifted. That meeting turned into a month of back and forth. I had to get a student petition signed by 600 people, write a three page letter to the provost, and sit through two more meetings where nobody would give me a straight answer. By the time they finally said yes, the speaker had already booked another date in Boston. So we lost the event anyway. How do you all handle it when the school drags its feet like this? Is there a faster way to push back without burning bridges with admin?
