Our student senate nixed the ACLU speaker over a catering bill

Last month our campus group booked the ACLU attorney for a free speech forum, but the senate pulled funding when she asked for a $50 meal stipend plus travel from Columbus. They said it looked like 'activism spending' after some donor complained, and now the event is just a Q&A with our poli sci professor instead. Has anyone else seen a speaker invite die over something this small and petty?
