Hot take: I finally got my friend to stop asking 'who's that guy' during our movie nights by making him a cheat sheet with just three characters.
After he kept pausing 'The Winter Soldier' for the fifth time, I wrote down Steve, Bucky, and Sam on a sticky note and told him everyone else is either a bad guy or a good guy, which worked way better than my old 20-minute PowerPoint.

Oh man, that's genius! I always tried to give my friends the full backstory on everyone, like explaining how Bucky fell from the train and got brainwashed. It just made their eyes glaze over. Your sticky note method is so much smarter. Just the core trio, good or bad, and the movie actually gets watched. I'm totally stealing this for our next Marvel night.

My cousin tried to explain the whole plot of Inception to me before we watched it. I mean, he spent twenty minutes on dream layers and totems. By the time the movie started, I was just confused and kinda annoyed. It happens with recipes too, like when someone gives you their life story before the actual cookie instructions. Sometimes you just need the sticky note version to get people on board.

Sticky note version sounds nice but is it really that big a deal? People get excited and over explain, it's just how it goes. If a twenty minute chat before a movie ruins it, maybe the problem isn't the explanation. I've sat through worse and still enjoyed the film.
