I finally found out that Stan Lee only wrote one full issue of Fantastic Four by himself

I was reading some old letter columns on a fan site last night and saw an editor note saying Stan basically plotted and left the scripting to others, which blew my mind since I always assumed he wrote everything in those early issues.

Hold up, I gotta disagree a little bit. He definitely did plot most of those early issues himself, and that first issue of Fantastic Four is all him with Kirby doing the art. Jack Kirby's plotting and layouts were a huge part of the collaboration, sure, but Stan was way more hands-on than people give him credit for. Everyone wants to act like the Marvel Method meant Stan just sat back and took credit, but he was writing dialogue and captions non-stop for years. Call it a team effort, but Stan wasn't just a figurehead.

Honestly, Kirby was doing way more of the heavy lifting on those plots than Stan ever admitted.

Yeah, just read a letter column from issue 12 where they flat-out admit Stan only plotted that first issue himself.
