A finisher in Bakersfield told me to stop adding water at the truck, and my 4 inch slab stopped crazing
I was pouring a 24 by 30 garage slab in Bakersfield back in March and the mix was already getting stiff by the time the second truck showed up. An old finisher on that job watched me reach for the hose and just said "every gallon you add costs you 200 psi, kid." I pulled the slump down half an inch the rest of that pour and worked it with the screed and float a lot faster instead, and the finish came out way tighter with no crazing the next morning. Now I ask the batch plant for a mid-range instead of watering it on site, and it has saved me two callbacks since. Anybody else here fight the guys who want to wet it down just to make it move?
