A guy I was pouring a driveway with told me I was troweling too wet... changed my whole finish

I was out on a job last month in South Philly, doing a 40x20 slab for a garage. This older guy I was working with just stopped me and said 'you're working the cream too much, you're gonna burn it.' I honestly thought he was being picky... but I backed off and let it set up longer before the final trowel. The finish came out way smoother, no crazing. Now I check the bleed water way more careful. Anybody else get told they were overworking the surface?

Yeah but bleed water is just excess water, the cream is what you actually gotta watch.
