Accidentally found a way to keep cream finish from fading too fast

I did a driveway job in Phoenix last summer and the cream finish looked terrible after 3 months. Tried a slightly wetter mix on the next one and waited an extra 30 minutes before the first trowel pass. The color held up way better through the August heat. Anyone else mess with mix water to fight fading in sunny areas?

Wetter mix and a delayed first trowel kept my cream finish looking fresh too.
