Old timer at the supply house told me I was troweling too wet back in '07
I was stubborn about it for weeks but finally tried letting it firm up a bit longer before finishing and the surface came out way harder. Anybody else get a tip from a crusty old finisher that turned out to be gold?

Old crusty guys usually know their stuff, that's a fact.

My neighbor Roy is one of those old crusty guys you're talking about. Drove a beat up Dodge truck from the 70s and smelled like motor oil and coffee. He taught me how to change my own brake pads once and told me stories about driving across the country before interstates were a thing. The guy could fix anything with a wrench and some duct tape. Makes me wonder what kind of knowledge we're losing as those guys start to fade out, you know?
