Hit $10k in a single month last week for the first time ever
I've been running my own handyman business in Seattle for about 2 years and I finally cracked $10,000 in billable work last month. A big part was landing a repeat contract with a property manager who needed 4 units painted in a week. Has anyone else hit a milestone that made them stop and realize this contractor thing might actually work out?

@abbyc33 I feel you on that, it's smart to keep an eye on the future even when things are going good. I know a plumber who lost half his yearly income when one apartment complex switched management companies. I'm trying to spread my work out too with smaller jobs and word of mouth. That 10k month is a great feeling but you're right, I don't want to lean on just one person forever.

So what's your plan for when the property manager decides they want to go with someone cheaper next time? Don't get me wrong, hitting 10k is huge and you should feel good about it. But you gotta be careful banking too hard on one repeat client like that. I've seen a bunch of guys in trades lose their whole month when a contract like that dries up. Keep building that base of smaller regular customers too, so you're not stuck if that big fish decides to shop around.
